Physical Therapy during pregnancy and beyond

Our Maternity Care program is designed to assist you in preventing and recovering from health issues that arise during and after pregnancy. Most insurance plans cover pre and postnatal physical therapy visits. 

The different stages of pregnancy and postpartum bring their own health changes and challenges. Maintaining and restoring strength, endurance, and power safely and efficiently during this period in your life is instrumental in minimizing future health problems. Our goal is to empower you with knowledge, help prevent pain, and restore your health and fitness.

Prenatal and postnatal care

  • Evaluation & assessment to determine your specific needs, concerns, and goals
  • Customized exercise program to improve posture, increase strength and power, improve coordination and balance, and increase flexibility and mobility
  • Core and pelvic floor muscles training to prepare for childbirth, address the separation of abdominal muscles (Diastasis Recti), restore pelvic floor coordination after giving birth, treat and prevent incontinence, and improve sexual health
  • Manual therapy as needed to decrease pain and muscle spasms and improve joint mobility 
  • Incorporation of pilates, yoga, and other exercise modalities
  • Postnatal home visits

Our approach

We have developed a comprehensive and efficient system to prevent and treat common musculoskeletal problems that arise during the pregnancy and postpartum periods. Those conditions often result from changing posture, increased joints mobility, and impaired strength. 

Even if you are not experiencing any apparent concerns during your pregnancy, it is still beneficial for you to be evaluated at the following three stages: at about 16 weeks of gestation, when pregnancy hormones that affect musculoskeletal system are stabilized; at about 25 weeks due to significant postural changes; and lastly at 36 weeks to prepare you for childbirth. 

Once your baby is born, we recommend an evaluation and physical therapy sessions at 2, 6, 10, and 16 weeks after delivery. During these visits, your physical therapist will address immediate postpartum issues, recommend customized breastfeeding and child care positions and techniques, assess the separation of the abdominal muscles (Diastasis Recti) and pelvic floor muscles function, and provide a tailored routine of safe exercises and activities. 

As a part of postnatal care, we offer in-home visitsby a licensed physical therapist. It is important that you have access to all the information and tools from the first week you are at home to help you recover and get fit safely and efficiently. 

In case of pain or any other symptoms, we will see you as often as needed during and after pregnancy.
